Irrational Numbers - another display of Krishna's genius
Jai Srila Prabhupada
Recently something had spurred in me a lot of interest for Math. I came across the concept of irrational numbers. You can create an irrational number in a number of ways. One of which I know is by taking the square-root of a number. There is also a ready to use irrational number - the pi.
Thinking of the pi made me appreciate the creative genius of Lord Krishna. The definition of the pi is: The number that you get when you divide the circumference of a circle by its radius. Fascinating isn't it? Just think of it. Draw a circle. Find its circumference. Then divide it by the circle's radius. And lo; you get a number that's having infinite digits with no repetition. That means you just can't express the pi using pen and paper like you do for other (rational) numbers. What special property that the circumference of a circle has that gives this special number - the pi - the irrational nature? We can only appreciate the genius of Krishna whenever we look at the pi.

A Vaishnava is known when he speaks
Jai Srila Prabhupada.
I was chatting with my brother-in-law yesterday on a bus from Tirupathi. The kind Lord inspired me with some realizations which I shared with my brother-in-law. A vaishnava is known when he speaks. He cannot be understood by his actions or appearance.
There's a small anecdote to illustrate this. Once a scholar challenged Akbar. The scholar could speak many languages with equal fluency. The scholar's challenge was that there was no one in Akbar's kingdom who could find out what the scholar's mother-tongue was. Akbar called all his ministers to plan defeating the scholar. According to the opinion of the ministers, many expert linguists were summoned from different parts of Akbar's kingdom, but no one was able to find out what the scholar's mother-tongue was. Finally, Akbar summoned Birbal, the cleverest of his ministers to oust the scholar's challenge. On one dark night, Birbal stealthily entered the room where the scholar was asleep and splashed some cool water on the scholar. The dazed scholar shouted something in his mother-tongue and thus his challenge fell apart. Moral: The chastity of a devotee to his Lord is known in the hour of danger.
A vaishnava is known when he speaks and what he speaks in the hour of danger. Does he call out to the Lord or is he gripped by the fear of death?

Aphorisms Of Religion
I have summarized the teachings of every religion into the following aphorisms
1. 'I' am neither the body nor the mind but one who possesses them.
This is evident if one analyzes who is 'he/her'. Am I the hand, the leg, or the head? No, I am none of these. You may spend days doing this analysis, but you will always reach this conclusion.
2. A lot of intelligence has gone into the design of this 'universe' (creation).
Take a flower, an insect or even a single celled organism and observe the intricate design of the living entity. You will be astounded at the amount of detailed design. Everything has been worked out - even to the extent of how that entity will be interacting with the environment or body it's part of. Doesn't it suggest that a 'directed' thought has gone behind it?
3. That intelligence cannot be the attribute of an insentient (unconscious) entity, but of a sentient (conscious) one.
Unconscious entity cannot display it's own intelligence; it's intelligence is always the product of a higher intelligence. Hence the 'supreme' intelligence is conscious.
4. That 'supreme' intelligence has created this universe with a purpose.
5. The mission of human life is to understand this purpose.
6. This purpose is 'happiness'. This is easily understood from the fact that all endeavors are directed toward happiness.
7. The Supreme Intelligence has also prescribed the way to achieve happiness in our endeavors.
I thank Sathguru and Srila Prabhupada for inducing me with these aphorisms. These aphorisms cannot be defied by any atheistic powers.

Leading a happy life
What I will be blogging here will not be about a philosophy; it will be about a science - a technology to deprogram ourselves. Does that frighten you? Rest assured, you will remain the same lovable person that everybody knows you as. It's just that your life will become more meaningful than eating, sleeping, mating and defending. You might already be acquainted with something higher, like say, art, dance, music and so on. But what I will be telling you here will take you to the summit of what these have to offer.
To help you get an idea of the scape that you will explore, take a look at the following sketch:

The ovals represent what I call as the 'tiers'. The tiers are the different facets of our lives. But the central tier 'Self' is not actually a facet rather it's 'we'. The distance of a tier from 'Self' represents how important it is to us. Thus the 'Social' tier is not as important as say the 'Mental' tier. Also notice that the tiers farther from the 'Self' are founded on the the tiers that are closer to 'Self'. Thus the physical aspect of a person is built upon his / her mental makeup. For the time being I will let you ponder on this sketch which I shall elaborate in the upcoming posts.
Take care.
